The name Vulcan
comes from Roman mythology;
the Roman god of fire, especially
destructive fire.
Vulcan was believed to be the God of
craftsmanship
and metal working. He was a blacksmith; together
with his
helpers he forged weapons and other items for gods
and
heroes. His temples were usually located outside the
cities,
due to the dangerous nature of fire and his work.
